Avatar The Most Watchable Movie For The Christmas Holidays

By Tom Wilson

James Cameron's movies such as Titanic and the Terminator series compare nothing to Avatar, making is the best movie he has ever created. The crazy good 3-D animation and computer generated graphics make Avatar seem very realistic even though half of the characters in the movie itself are fake. The visual effects and high quality work takes everyone who is watching the movie out of their seat and puts them right into the movie. The film industry has maybe seen another level being set to achieve after the release of Avatar.

The year is 2154 and the main character of Avatar is Jake who is a handicapped marine who lost his legs on a military operation on Earth. Pandora is a moon of a planet several light years away from Earth and the movie begins with Jake and his fellow marines arriving at Pandora after a 5 year journey. Jake is on this particular mission after signing up for it after his brother's death. His brother, Tom was a scientist working on a high-level operation and was only replaced by Jake because they both shared the same DNA structure.

The natives of Pandora are the navis, who are 10 feet tall creatures with sparkly blue skin, tails and many human-like features. The humans created human-navi hybrids which were used to communicate with the navis, known as the Avatar project, which can be controlled by humans. Jake is assigned his brother's Avatar and loves the motion of walking the first time he controls his Avatar since he misses the feeling of being able to walk.

The marines under the command of Colonel Miles Quartich want to launch an attack and capture the unobtanium (which is a rare mineral used for energy on Earth) deposits that lie underneath where the navis live, and the colonel wants Jake to act as a covert mission to find out more about the navis in order to create a strategy for that purpose. While, the scientists under the lead of Dr. Grace Augustine want to make scientific discoveries and findings through the use of Avatars and well as find a peaceful way of getting the unobtanium.

A young female by the name Neytiri finds Jake after he gets attacked by a Thanator and separated from his friends while on a mission. She takes him to the navi tribe where the leaders are angry at first but end up accepting Jake and assign Neytiri to teach him the ways of the navi. Jake ends up following in love with Neytiri, but after a whole bunch of adventures where the director takes us through breath-taking visual and sound effects as Jake learns the ways of the navi.

The movie twists as the humans attack the navi tribe and Jake fights with his emotions to decide which side he is on. However, when he sees that the humans just want to kill the navis and capture the unobtanium deposits with greed, he decides to side with the navis and the way of their lives. He leads the navis against a final battle filled with 3-D creative works, amazing details, and excitement as he unites all the navi tribes in one last battle against the humans. - 31989
