Why Tattoo Machines Are So Popular

By Frederick Michaels McKinnon

The days when tattoos are done completely by hand are at an end. That doesnt however mean that the whole process is now done by a machine, but machines have completely replaced the manual needle that professional tattoo artists around the world used to use as it is far quicker and more efficient.

Because these tattoo machines are in such high demand many companies have begun manufacturing them, giving us a wide range of machines to choose from. There are machines that are more or less just more advanced versions of the traditional tattoo needle and then there are machines that are so advanced that they can penetrate the skin 3000-4000 times a minute. However, even with these machines being so readily available a good professional tattoo artists should still be able to do a completely manual tattoo and before you decide on who will do your tattoo for you, you should make sure that whoever you choose can still do a manual tattoo as using a machine requires less skill and it is a risk if your chosen artist cannot still do a manual one.

Moving back to the way tattoo machines are rising fast in popularity. The main reason for this is because of how consistent they are. Even the best professional tattoo artist cannot be 100% sure of the consistency of his manual needle, and that is a risk that a professional shouldnt take. To make consistency more, well, consistent, the first tattoo machines were created.

I mentioned earlier that there are different types of tattoo machines and that some are simply more advanced versions of the traditional needle and the newer ones have electric pulses that perform around 4000 strokes a minute, meaning that the image comes out onto the skin in amazing detail, almost like a photo taken on a very high mega-pixel camera. Another advantage of these pulse machines is that the noise they make would be completely drowned out by the noise of an older machine i.e. they are very quiet compared to previous tattoo machines.

While there are lots of tattoo studios that use these pulse machines now, there are still some that prefer the old fashioned manual way. - 31989
